Personal Quote:

"Obtaining the CFRE designation has been an accomplishment for me as a fundraising professional. I feel it is an indicator of my commitment to the profession and professional standards. It also is an indicator of baseline knowledge in the field of development. Personally, I had set a goal within my first year as a fundraiser, to sit for the CFRE exam and secure the designation upon my fifth year in the field.

In preparation for the CFRE, I recommend the various review courses, recommended reading list, and regular or on-going professional development and education programs. Review the study questions and be familiar with standard terminology and language in the field- as opposed to your organization's!"

Associate Vice President for College Advancement

The Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential provides you with a way to demonstrate your achievements, integrity, and mastery of the philanthropic profession. It also signals to your employer, colleagues, the community and potential donors that you have the knowledge and skills to be an effective fundraising executive.

Certification Offered

  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation is earned by those with at least five years of experience that successfully complete the application and examination process.
  • Advance Certified Fund Raising Executive (ACFRE) is a credentialing process for identifying mastery of the profession for individuals with 10 years experience.

When you become a CFRE did you think it was forever? Many individuals participate in the CFRE process knowing that they must recertify every three years for as long as they wish to hold the credential. Recertification is based on Criterion programs and Competency based programs. If you want to acquire more information as to why recertification is required, please contact Jette Engstrom of AFP National at 703-519-8472.
